The City Of Kyoto - A Destination With Over A Millenium Of History And Culture

Kyoto is a unique city where the ancient Japanese culture still influences the fast-paced, busy city life of an ultra-modern city. Kyoto was the old capital of Japan for a very long time, and it resembles Tokyo, the current capital in many different ways. Even among all the urban excitement, it blends with the tranquility and peacefulness of the city's shrines and gardens, resulting in a place people love to vacation to. If you are thinking of traveling to Kyoto, start by getting pasports.

If you don't have a passport or if you have a passport that is expired or lost, online passport services can help you get everything straightened out. These are websites that specialize in passport expediting, meaning that what ever service you need, they can help you get it completed quickly and free of stress. All sorts of services are available, from renewing U.S. passports online to getting your first ever passport in time for a trip.

Kyoto has 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, which is a lot more than many countries have. Nishi-Hongan-ji Temple is just one of these sites. This Temple houses many National Treasures, such as the oldest Noh theatre in the world. It also features intricate, gold-trimmed gates and stunning architecture. Nijo Castle is an entire complex, with Ninomaru Palace being one of the most spectacular spots, as it is almost completely constructed out of cypress. This castle was constructed as a residence for shoguns, and its rich gold leaf decorations and wood carvings make it a breathtaking sort of spectacle. Kamigamo Shrine is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in the entire country of Japan, and it is a very sacred and incredibly beautiful site to see.

It's definitely a good idea to visit the famous imperial palaces and villas situated around the city. There are four in total, each with its own historical significance. The best time to see these buildings is during either the spring when the cherry blossoms are blooming or during the fall when the leaves are beginning to change. Kyoto is definitely one of the best places to see the cherry blossoms in Japan. One of the coolest things to do in Kyoto is visit Iwatayama Monkey Park, also known as Monkey Mountain. In this park there are 170 Japanese macaque monkeys that roam around without any gates or walls. Be sure to bring plenty of food to bribe the monkeys with, as they aren't afraid of humans.

Gardens and museums are part of the cultural experience. If someone in your travel group likes trains, consider visiting the Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum, where there are 19 old steam locomotives on display. Manga is a huge part of Japanese culture, and it's becoming very popular in the United States today. The Kyoto International Manga Museum is a good stop if you have a manga fan with you. The Kyoto Botanical Garden is an absolutely stunning place to visit. The atmosphere is overwhelmingly tranquil.
