Watch The Mechanic online

A remake of the 1972 action thriller starring Charles Bronson, "The Mechanic" follows an elite hit man (Statham) as he teaches his trade to an apprentice (Foster) who has a connection to one of his previous victims. Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a well-paid assassin who executes people at the request of the American government. But after assassinating a former close associate, Bishop does something that's unprofessional and out of control: he takes on a apprentice (Ben Foster), the son of the man he just killed.

Follows an elite hit man as he teaches his trade to an apprentice who has a connection to one of his previous victims.

Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) is a 'mechanic' - an elite assassin with a strict code and unique talent for cleanly eliminating targets. It's a job that requires professional perfection and total detachment, and Bishop is the best in the business. But when his mentor and close friend Harry (Donald Sutherland) is murdered, Bishop is anything but detached. His next assignment is self-imposed - he wants those responsible dead.

His mission grows complicated when Harry's son Steve (Ben Foster) approaches him with the same vengeful goal and a determination to learn Bishop's trade. Bishop has always acted alone but he can't turn his back on Harry's son. A methodical hit man takes an impulsive student deep into his world and a deadly partnership is born. But while in pursuit of their ultimate mark, deceptions threaten to surface and those hired to fix problems become problems themselves.

Back in 1972 Charles Bronson starred with Jan-Michael Vincent in Michael Winner's hitman action pictureThe Mechanic. Jump forward a shade under forty years and now Jason Statham and Ben Foster have taken over the roles.

Con-Air director Simon West - who did three movies people actually cared about in the late 90's / early 00's before dropping off into mostly TV work - takes the reins on this with Donald Sutherland taking a key supporting role.

The big question from the trailer is what kind of movie this is exactly. Is this a continued push from producers Nu Image / Millennium into theatrical releasing following the successes ofThe Expendables,Rambo andBad Lieutenantor is this just a glossier than normal take on their regular DTV output. Either way this is the sort of role that Statham can do in his sleep and he sort of seems to be.
