Turkey occupies some 814,578 square kilometres and is often a controversial country right on the European and Middle Eastern borders. For many years Turkey has tried to become part of the EU but at this time remains outside of it. There is still regular uprising and troubles in certain parts of the country which is such a contract to the majority of people and places to visit.

Turkey in a major holiday destination and even became very popular with overseas property buyers. Much of the country is beautiful with magnificent scenery and beaches.

Due to its geographical location Turkey has always played an important role in history and was actually referred to as "the cradle of civilization". Turkey was home to the first ever known town back in 6,500 B.C. Over the centuries many different empires and cultures were involved in shaping Turkey into the rich and fascinating culture it is today.

The main religion practised throughout Turkey is Muslim and this is always the sticking point with regards to EU entry. There is no other country in Europe with such a high Muslim population and unfortunately radicals regularly cause death and destruction stopping a smooth entry into the EU.

But all of that aside Turkey is a truly spectacular country and one that is still highly visited by tourists every year. The weather is fantastic throughout most of the year and the Turkish people and kind and friendly. The cuisine in Turkey has many different influences and the flavours are something that leaves you wanting for more.

If you are trying to decide on a holiday destination and have never had the opportunity to visit Turkey it is something worth considering as you will not only enjoy some of the bets beaches in the world you will also experience one of the best cultures on the planet.
