Children Disciplining Tips - Learn How The Experts Do It And How You Can Too!

If you want to know how to be a great parent or feel that you have been ineffectual up to now, read this article to get a few children disciplining tips from the experts. I say the experts because we need sound advice as parenting can sometimes seem to be the most difficult task in the world.

Parents often ask if slapping kids is permissible when things get out of hand. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises against this for many reasons. Most studies show that slapping like that can lead to all sorts of problems like kids slapping back. Kids interpret this to mean that anger and aggression may solve some problems!

The studies also show that slapped children tend to become violent adults themselves and are more likely to be depressed or become alcoholics and may even be more prone to engage in criminal activities.

The other thing the experts tell us when giving us children disciplining tips is that we should always concentrate on what we want the kids to do and not on the bad behavior. So, acceptable behavior is our goal and we need to have a few strategies in place so that this is what is emphasised. The bad behavior can be ignored sometimes or can be dealt with by implementing natural consequences such as withdrawal of privileges.

An example of a natural consequence is where a child absolutely refuses to pick up any of his clothes. The best thing to do here is to make sure that these are removed by you and locked away so that when your child runs out of clothes he has to earn them back by doing extra chores or just by picking up the last remaining ones.

If you are confronted with a meltdown, there are many ways of dealing with this but the most important one is never to give in because the child then has learnt that this little technique does actually work and he will start to use it more often!

Maybe your child or toddler is feeling jealous, sad or irritated about something and starts to act out or simply misbehave. If you see a pattern here, you can try and talk to him about this if he or she is old enough. This is much better than actually giving out some consequences each and every time it happens. It is also a much more productive activity as it will help the child to express his feelings.

These are just a few of the children disciplining tips that we can learn if we follow a child behavior program. The one I recommend is an award winning program and has had great success in helping parents to get to grips with the child behavior issues. Time to check this one out now.
