Why Play Time For Kids Is Important

Parents provide their children time to play because they feel that kids just need to be kids while they are young. While this is a very important reason to provide play time for kids, play time for kids serves several other purposes as well.

As kids grow, they are learning all kinds of new skills both physical and social and playtime gives your child a chance to practice new skills away from the corrective influence of parents or other adults. Think about it for a minute, you teach your children how to be polite and use the proper utensils when eating. Then within days, your child is having a tea party, teaching their teddy bear to say please and thank you, and how to drink properly from a cup. Through imaginative play your child is practicing the new skills they have learned. So, play time for kids really provides them with a safe and non judgmental way and place to practice new skills that they are learning.

However, that is not the only type of learning that benefits a child when you offer playtime for kids. Through creative play they learn socialization skills, communication skills and how to problem solve. Give a child a toy such a dump truck or a front-end loader, and he will learn through trial and error and problem solving how to build a mountain or castle. He may even learn how to get a bulldozer up a mountain to build a road. While for your child this toy is simply fun he is also learning how to do many things without even being aware that he is learning and even educators agree that children learn best when learning is fun.

If your child plays with another child with his trucks, tractors and trailers then he is also learning to cooperate with others and working in a small group to problem solve. Through this type of creative play a child learns how to talk to imaginary foremen, workers, and others. He is learning a little about the world through play.

Play time for children offers them a chance to learn to be creative, to problem solve, and to practice all kinds of social skills, they also are improving their gross and fine motor skills, and learning hand and eye coordination. Providing amble playtime for kids allows them to develop physically, mentally, and emotionally while doing something they love that is fun and interesting to them.

Today your child may be building a road in a sandbox, rearranging the furniture in their dollhouse, or enjoying a cup of coffee at an imaginary cafe, but, the skills they are learning through these playtime activities may help them become tomorrows, builders of bridges, interior decorators, or even the next generation of problem solvers.

So while providing play time for kids allows them to enjoy their childhood today, it also provides them with the tools they will need to be successful adults in the future.
