Where To Buy Custom Tarps

Tarps come in handy for so many projects, but it's not always easy to find the perfect ready made tarp at your local camping or outdoor store. For unique needs, you'll need custom tarps, and that usually means some intricate measuring and expert advice.

Custom tarps are commonly used in the boating industry. When a boat is put in dry dock or storage for a lengthy period of time it needs to be covered or sealed. Occasionally someone might prefer to have his boat completely sealed, similar to wrapping a piece of meat to store in the freezer. However, if you plan on having regular access to your boat, you'll need a custom tarp instead.

If a boat is indeed what you need the tarps for, the boat yard or servicing center can order one for you. These are usually made of heavy canvass with an oil based covering to keep it being weathered by external forces.

However, if a boat is not your problem, you may need to head to a high end retail outlet where customized fittings of all types can be ordered. Whatever you need covered needs to be measured. And it needs to be measured correctly. Leave room for overlapping, hems and drawstrings.

Occasionally you can have someone come to your house, or office, or whatever, to do the measuring for you. This is a great option to take advantage of whenever it's available because usually once you place a custom order, there's no turning back and there's no refunds if it doesn't fit properly.

You'll probably have your choice of materials, too. If in doubt, ask. Not everything should be covered in vinyl, and there are new materials on the market made specifically for special industries. Just like marine based tarps for the boating industry, there are materials suited for lumber, dirt, gravel, and even delicate foliage such as orange groves that need to be protected from frost.
