subject: What Am I Going To Pay To Have My Package Delivered? [print this page]

Cost is always going to be a consideration when it comes to shipping, so it is natural for people to spend some time online trying to figure out how much exactly what it will cost them to ship goods with a courier. Since courier companies are allowed to set their own rates though, it is impossible to generalize about how much something might cost to ship with any of the Miami courier services. What it is possible to do though, is to look at how a courier company comes up with the amount that they quote you, and give you some rough guidelines as to which types of orders are going to cost more to ship than others.

First of all, in every courier company, one of the most important figures that they are going to use to calculate your final bill is something called the freight class. This is figured out by plugging the size, weight, and any special factors that have to be considered about your delivery, such as if it is fragile or oversized, into a formula. This is then used with the distance that you want your package to travel to arrive at your base rate. Basically, the bigger, heavier, and further your package has to go, the more it will cost to ship it.

The next factor in shipping rates is the speed at which you wish your delivery to be made. Basically, the faster you want it there, the more it will cost you. Every courier company has a basic shipping option which means that they will schedule your delivery with others that they are already making to provide you with the most economical rate, but it will also take the longest to get there. On the opposite side of this is rush shipping, where they will send a special vehicle out solely to make your delivery, but which will cost you more than any other type of shipping.

In addition to these factors, you might be aware that courier companies often have a lot of surcharges and fees which can get added on to your bill and make the shipping rate go up quite a bit. These get added on for various reasons, such as shipping on the weekends, shipping after hours, extra equipment or employees needed to help with the shipment, and other similar situations. Ask your courier for a list of fees to assess how much a delivery is going to cost.
