Causes and Treatments For Dry Skin

You don't want to have scaly and dry skin, do you? You have to keep the skin's natural moisture and make sure that you have proper skin hydration in order to eliminate this skin condition. The most basic way on how to keep your skin moisturized is by drinking plenty of water and other fluids. The best amount of fluid intake is 8 to 12 glasses a day.

Dry skin is caused by many different factors. The most common factors include frequent hot baths, extreme cold weather, medication, and harsh chemicals that are used in skin care products. You can prevent this by simply avoiding these factors and sticking to healthy alternatives.

You can practice short warm to cool showers or perhaps, warm baths instead of hot baths. Or you can have hot baths but you should try to do them less frequently. You should know that hot baths can wash away your natural skin oils. It is important to keep and preserve these natural oils to prevent your skin from getting dry.

Of course, you can never avoid extreme cold weather especially during the winter. The thing you can do here is to simply try to stay out of the blustery wind as much as possible. Also keeping your outdoor time to a minimum will help to keep your skin in better condition. It is also important to apply hydrating lotion to moisturize your scaly skin.

Some medication can cause dry skin. If it is possible, you can ask your physician to change your medications. If not, then all you can do is to apply moisturizing creams and hydrating lotions.

The wrong skin care products can also cause the dryness of your skin too. Harsh chemicals and harmful ingredients can contribute to skin redness and inflamed skin that will become dry and scaly. For instance, mineral oil and alcohol can cause excessive dryness when used regularly. With continual use these two substances will strip away your natural oils, leaving your skin very dry.

To prevent dry skin, you should be properly moisturized using the products that can really help you. So instead of products with harmful chemicals, settle for something that is natural. You can use natural skin care products with natural moisturizers like jojoba oil, avocado oil, babassu, grape seed oil and shea butter. All of these ingredients are highly hydrating for the skin and will leave your skin soft and smooth.
