The game of quidditch is no longer just a fictional sport described on Harry Potter books. But it was now materialized into a reality game played by college students. Hence, the name College Quidditch emerged.
In the United States, there are about 200 colleges affiliated with the International Quidditch Association (IQA). They play tournaments and joins Harry Potter Conventions. The names of the conventions were also based from the popular Harry Potter books such as Nimbus 2003, the Witching Hour and the Infinitus 2010 which was just held recently. This association aims to promote the sport of Quidditch and encourage other young people to lead a more physically active life and engage more in social activities.
What You Need To Play
In College Quidditch, the materials used may be just an alternative for the ones described in the books but they were just as functional as the fictional ones. Some of these replacements are the Golden Snitch which was replaced with a tennis ball in a sock. The quaffle is replaced with a volleyball and the goals are mounted with Hula-Hoops. Some materials were maintained like the brooms but of course, there will be no flying stints and the capes to add a touch of wizardry to the game. For safety protection, the players wear safety goggles. This is to avoid hitting your eye with the broomsticks.
