Post delivery women tend to develop gap in between teeth. The gaps in between teeth is where food particles get stuck and this results in build up of plaque. We cannot reach these interior sports with tooth brush and dislodge the plaque that has settled down strongly around the teeth. Therefore we use Dental floss to remove such plaque from these tricky spots. If left un brushed the plaque will cause tooth decay and infection in some while.

Dental floss is a nylon or plastic thread or ribbon spool with well defined edges . Dental floss can be made out of nylon, polyethylene or Teflon and is used to clean the plaque as well as remove the food particles from around the teeth. With dental floss you can even scrub the surface and edges of the teeth effectively. You get a choice of different varieties of dental floss from plain, flavored, waxed as well as unwaxed floss spools in the market.

Dental floss was first invented by Levi Spear Parmly , a dentist from New Orleans in 1815.He founded the floss made out of silk fiber. Today we get nylon and other plastic varieties in spools of 5, 10 or 15 meters length.

At least once a day everybody should floss their teeth daily. This should be done after brushing your teeth with toothpaste and cleaning your mouth.Daily dental flossing is good for your teeth and can prevent gum diseases as well as decay from affecting your teeth. As per researchers, daily flossing helps prevent heart trouble and is good for the heart too.

Flossing is to be done in a particular way. Take a 16" or 18" width floss thread. Take out sufficient length thread from the spool and tie the two ends to your middle fingers of both hands. Wind the floss around the teeth in C Shape. Use floss to move in zig zag motion as well as forward and backward motion to brush against the teeth and remove the plaque.Pay more attention to the bottom of the teeth where the gums begin.

You will get a hang of the technique within one or two days of brushing. On your next visit to the Dentists, get a practical demonstration from the doctor and also involve your family members in attending and learning to use dental floss daily.
