Creatine is the compound which is amino acid based. This substance is naturally produced in our body. Half of the amount of creatine is produced endogenously from the amino acids present in the body and the rest of it is developed from the food that we take. It is mainly found in good amount in red meat and fish. The liver, kidneys and pancreas contribute in the production of creatine which is then sent to the tissues of the muscles in through the blood.

You can take creatine from the food supplements such as minerals and vitamins. This is necessary in order to generate extra amount of phosphocreatine in the body as it helps in generating more energy. The supplements of creatine are usually taken by the people, who take part in sports which require sudden energy bursts such as wrestling, sprinting and weight lifting. There are also some other benefits of creatine such as reducing muscle wasting in the post surgical patients, helpful to the heart patients by increasing the power of doing more exercises and also useful to maintain good functioning of the heart. It has also been useful in the treatment of neuromuscular diseases.

Though creatine is very useful, there are some side effects of it. One of the most common side effects of the creatine found is the weight gain which is due to increase level of water in the muscle. There are some other side effects such as dehydration, nausea, muscle cramps, diarrhea and seizures. The person who is already suffering from the renal or kidney disorders, the creatine can cause renal stress due to increase in the kidney stress.
