How To Save Time Creating Your Wedding Table Plan

Creating a wedding table plan can be a difficult task, and a very time consuming one. If you thought that planning the wedding was tough, wait until you get your teeth into the wedding table plan!

Part of the trouble is that people tend to assume that creating a plan is actually quite easy, since you're largely dealing not only with adults, but friends and family who will be keen for you to have a happy day. What's really so difficult?

One of the main problems is that once you start to consider the limitations of the venue, and the limitations of your guests it can be a little like trying to play Chess with Scrabble pieces whilst following the rules for Hopscotch just to get every one of your guests sitting somewhere that is suitable for them.

Some people may need to be near the Top Table from the point of view of etiquette - very close family such as brothers, sisters and grandparents perhaps. Some people may need to be seated close to the toilets for medical reasons, and elderly people won't want to be sitting right next to either the speakers or a door which is constantly being opened, letting a draught in.

Children may need to be sitting somewhere close to the toilets, and perhaps near the door so when they're finished they can run off some of their enviably inexhaustible energy.

Although all your guests will almost certainly like you, have something in common with you and get on with you, that doesn't necessarily mean that every single one of your guests will get on with everyone else. You'll almost certainly start to think of problem combinations, such as Old Uncle Harry and his endless stream of filthy jokes, who certainly can't be seated with Lady Smythington-Fforbes. You may have chosen to place couples on tables, but what of those who are coming alone?

The combinations and requirements add up, and it's only made worse when people unexpectedly drop out, offer their apologies, split up and explain that only one of them can come, or meet a new partner and ask if they can come along too, or suddenly return your RSVP about three months after you assumed they weren't coming and left them off your wedding table plan.

So how can you save time when it comes to creating your wedding table plan? The answer is to make technology work for you, rather than struggling with pens and paper. There are a number of software solutions which enable you to create a wedding table plan much more easily than on paper.

Draw out the room, drop the tables in whatever arrangement you want, upload your guest list and then literally drag and drop guests onto suitable places. If you need to swap guests over it's as easy as picking one up with the mouse and clicking where you want them to go. In this way you can even make quick changes right up to the day itself, and then print off your wedding table plan. Some computer based solutions even print off your place cards as well, saving you even more time - and stress!
