Two Little Words To Say To Yourself When Thinking About Wedding Insurance

Two Little Words To Say To Yourself When Thinking About Wedding Insurance

If you're not quite convinced whether or not your wedding warrants a full wedding insurance policy, then there are just two little words which you should think about. Combined with an active imagination, or the ability to read a few horror stories, these two words have the power to instil fear, anxiety and dread, as well as helping to convince almost anyone that wedding insurance is definitely the way to go.

So what are these extraordinarily potent two words? It's very simple. Whenever you think about your wedding, or about any individual detail or element of your wedding, simply say to yourself, 'what if...?'

The power of the 'what if' question is to bring into sharp blurriness all those details that seemed so crisp and neat and organised and clear. Because real life isn't crisp and neat and organised, regardless of how much planning you put into it. Fate, fortune, luck, chance or life - call it what you will, but it has a funny habit of turning up when you least expect it, when you least want it, or when you can least afford it.

In order to demonstrate how this might work, every single one of the following 'what if' scenarios are not only 100% genuine, but they have all happened this year in the UK. Think it couldn't happen to you? Neither did the following victims - sorry, happy couples.

What if... the roof blew off your reception venue, or the wedding venue was flooded? What if a massive hole opened up in the middle of the road, preventing everyone from getting anywhere near the venue? What if a massive tree blew over in the night, demolishing a significant section of the venue?

Wedding venues are simply buildings, and subject to flooding, fire, winds and vandalism, as well as a remarkably diverse range of accidents. In many cases couples have no option but to postpone the wedding, or relocate it, and this is likely to mean that not only will they lose every single one of their deposits, but they may end up having to foot a much larger bill. Such an unfortunate event could cost hundreds or thousands of pounds very easily. So what would you do?

What if... your wedding limousine was stolen, or the driver disqualified from driving, or the vehicle clamped? What if the horse pulling your wedding carriage bolted, hurtling the wedding party several miles down the high street, resulting in a delayed wedding and medical treatments required? What if the limousine driver couldn't find your address, or the wedding venue, arriving so late that the wedding can no longer go ahead?

Relying on other people to provide services in no way guarantees they'll get it right. Double bookings, incorrect bookings, forgotten bookings or other unforeseen events can all leave you without a major part of your wedding, and this could jeopardise the whole event. You might be able to claim back any payments you've made to the service which let you down, but you'll end up having to pay all the other cancellation fees yourself.

The fun of playing the 'what if' game is that you can literally play it for as long as you like. There seems no limit to the range of bizarre and unpredictable events which can jeopardise a wedding. But having wedding insurance makes it easier. Because if you have a wedding insurance policy, the answer to almost every 'what if' question is the same 'call my insurance company'. Now that's a reassuring answer to a potentially frightening question.
