And if you feel a little intimidated by this expansive region, not to worry as there are many guided tours that you can take that will help you experience the full beauty of your natural surroundings.
Places to visit? Going to the TNQ is a wonder all it's own but it does contain some things that are "must sees" on your trip. The history and culture of the area is offered up by Cooktown, Mareeba and Mission Beach so you'll want to visit these towns. Another thing is to spend a day in Cairns, which as one of the largest cities in this area offers up fantastic dining and shopping.
Island visits? Try to visit the islands, the most popular are located right off the coast, Green Island is one of the more popular for a daytrip. But there are also Fitzroy Island and Dunk Island, all of these locations are very hospitable for visitors.
