Effective Autism Treatment - My Autism Support

Autism is a life-long condition characterized by impairment in three areas: communication, social interaction, and behavior. Infants and toddlers with Autism may display the following symptoms: doesn't make eye contact, doesn't smile when smiled at, doesn't follow objects visually, doesn't respond when cuddling, doesn't respond to his or her own name or to the sound of a familiar voice, doesn't make noises to get your attention, doesn't imitate your movements and facial expressions, doesn't reach out to be picked up, and doesn't play with other people or share interest and enjoyment. In 2007, a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that Autism affects 1 in 150 children to varying degrees. What, then, is the most effective autism treatment?

Well, the treatment for Autism depends on the individual needs of the patient. However, in most cases, a combination of treatment methods is more effective. These treatment methods include occupational therapy, physical therapy, behavior modification, communication therapy, dietary modifications, and medications.

Through occupation therapy, the child is taught basic skills like buttoning a shirt or taking a bath in order to improve his independent function. Through physical therapy, the child is subjected to an exercise program that includes massage and heat application in order to help him with controlling his body movements and improving his coordination. Behavior modification aims to treat inappropriate, repetitive, and aggressive behavior that is commonly seen in Autistic patients. It involves highly structured, skill-oriented activities that are based on the patient's needs and interests. Communication therapy is used for the purpose of teaching Autistic children how to communicate and express themselves.

As for dietary modifications and medications, things that are included in the list are vitamin C, vitamin B, magnesium, cod liver oil supplements, benzodiazepines, stimulants, and antipsychotic medications.

These are examples of effective Autism treatment.
