Caravan Insurance Explained In A User Friendly Way

If you own a caravan, whether it's a touring caravan or a static caravan, the chances are you'll be quite keen to get it insured. Just as with other types of insurance you'll be able to choose whether you wish to pay for insurance in one lump sum, or whether you prefer to pay for it on a monthly basis.

Although the actual level of cover can vary significantly from one policy to the next, most policies will offer you the same type of protection in general. For example you'll be covered against fire, theft, damage to third party property, bodily injury involving a third party and depending on the type of policy you choose, the caravan itself will be covered against damage.

Some insurance policies will also cover the contents within the caravan, but for the most part, this type of cover isn't automatically included. As such, it's something you really need to look into, considering that the contents of some caravans cost almost as much as the caravan itself.

Having the contents insured as well can provide you with much peace of mind, particularly when you're away on holiday with your caravan. The chances are, once you reach the camp site you won't want to spend all your time at the site and this means that your caravan will often be left unattended. It's all too easy for thieves to monitor your movements and they'll soon be able to tell when you intend being away for a few hours. The last thing you need is to come back and find most of your belongings gone.

Of course even if your contents are covered, it's still not something you wish to experience, but at least if it does happen, you have peace of mind in knowing that your goods can be replaced at the expense of the insurance company. One thing to look out for however is that if you left the caravan unlocked, your insurance company may refuse to pay you out. This is another reason why it's so important to always read the fine print.

Providing you're willing shop around, you're bound to find some excellent deals and if you're willing to purchase your insurance online you'll almost certainly qualify for an additional discount, in that the vast majority of insurance providers in the UK prefer people to purchase insurance via their websites.

Something which not many caravan owners are aware of is that there are nowadays several insurance providers specialising specifically in caravan insurance. This is where you'll often find you can have an insurance policy tailored to your own individual circumstances. For example, you can even get a two week caravan insurance package and of course if you only intend using your caravan for a week or two every now and then, then this is something you could really take advantage of.

With that said, most caravan owners still prefer to have their caravans insured irrespective of whether they're actually using them are not. This is even more the case with those people who have static caravans which are kept permanently on a camp site.

If you haven't yet got caravan insurance then you should start by visiting one of the insurance comparison websites so that you can compare prices alongside each other. You'll more than likely find that it's not going to cost you nearly as much as what you had first anticipated.
