Teen Discipline Issues - Sex, Drugs And Not So Much Rock And Roll!

Many parents worry that their children are being exposed to a dangerous world of sex and drugs and this is one of the main teen discipline issues at the moment. The peer pressure on teens is enormous and if the group is experimenting, then there is a real need to face up to this and talk about it with your teen.

I have just read a blog post about a high school putting on a play about Sweeney Todd the murderous barber of London who also ate his victims. Just an everyday story of murder and cannibalism! Nobody objected.

Yet when the same school announced the next play called Rent: School Edition which dealt with homosexuality, drugs, AIDS and drug abuse, there was a storm of protest. School boards were petitioned by angry parents who were disturbed by the fact that their children would be exposed to such themes. This did not happen in Iran but in New Jersey!

Yet there is not one school in the whole nation where teens are not having sex, where kids of all ages are on drugs and buying ADHD drugs on the school parking lot for various nefarious purposes. There are homosexual teenagers in every class and some are bullied into suicide. Instead of censorship, parents need to confront their teens with these teen discipline issues. How should they behave when the peer group pressure becomes really strong?

There is a crying need for parents to teach their kids about responsibility for their own lives and safety. There should be a frank discussion about safety. Why are there laws about drugs? What is their view on diverse sexuality and how can they show solidarity with teens who are struggling to express their sexuality? What will they do to protect themselves from venereal disease and so on.

Safety is one of the main teen discipline issues. Just think of what these kids are exposed to. The idea of sexting where teens send nude photos of themselves may get into a child pornography ring because they are being sent by minors. It is just imperative again to talk about these dangers and warn them that safety comes first.

Then there are all sorts of questions about Internet security. They should be aware that sex offenders frequent the social network. For example a CNN report stated recently that there were 2,000 sex offenders registered on My Space in North Carolina. That is just North Carolina! It is essential to warn them about online predators.

The bottom line is that parents have to take the responsibility to warn their teens about such teen discipline issues and not avoid it like the parents who probably signed the petition about Rent. Responsibility at the end of the day applies both to teens and parents.

If you are concerned about these teen discipline issues and do not know where to turn, why not take a look at the child behavior program below which covers all these topics and a lot more. It is a great way to help you through the jungle of parenting. You and your teen will never look back.
