subject: How Being Uninsured Ruins Lives [print this page]

Living without basic forms of insurance can ruin your life in more ways than you can imagine. Admittedly, most of us don't talk about or even think of the different ways insurance can protect us. In fact, most of us think about the money we are shelling out every month in premiums and what we could spend those funds on if we didn't have to mess around with insurance. As unpleasant as premiums are, insurance is a safety net nobody can afford to be without.

Living without health insurance, even the most basic of coverage, is crazy, stupid and most importantly setting yourself up for inevitable financial ruin, devastated credit and bankruptcy. It is no secret that the cost of medical care is increasing exponentially. The advent of new technologies and therapies has greatly enhanced treating certain diseases; however these new treatments do not come cheap. A typical office visit to a family doctor can run anywhere from $30 to $90 depending on what needs to be examined. For the most part the majority of Americans can afford this premium. However, where we run into problems is when more advanced procedures are ordered. For example, this co-pay most likely does not include any type of X-rays or blood work; for those procedures you can easily add another $200-$400 dollars. A few of these extra services and we are talking about a simple office call that can cost upwards of a couple grand. Now we are talking real money.

Health and Life insurance are not the only forms of insurance that one needs throughout their daily lives. Spending time without auto insurance, for example, is not highly recommended. If you are pulled over for any reason and it is discovered you lack auto insurance, you can rest assured that you will be spending quality time in county making new friends.

Going through life without Life Insurance most likely will not impact you directly. However, it is setting your family and descendants up for financial misery. The current cost of burying a loved one can easily cross several thousands of dollars. Most of us don't have that kind of money laying around. Life Insurance can protect your loved ones and ensure they have the funds necessary to take care of these important issues. Not having life insurance places the survivors of a loved one in a very precarious situation.

Living without the protection of insurance leaves little room for error. Instead of enjoying the pleasantries of life and your family and friends you are constantly worried. You are worried about the slight twinge of pain in your chest, is it something serious?; you are worried about the drive home and the road block you heard about on the radio. Living without insurance condemns someone to a life of self-doubt and anxiety. We all live our lives by odds every day. Each time we get into our cars, board an airplane or walk across the street there are statistics dictating the probability of something happening. Most of the time these odds are fairly low, however it takes only one incident, one probable event to change our lives and without insurance it is not change for the better.
