The Seriousness Of Teens Sexting

Teens sexting is the newest thing with kids all over the country, and unfortunately it is not a good one. These kids are sending pictures of themselves and/or others that are half naked or totally naked all over cell phones or are posting them all over the Internet for their friends to see. Unfortunately, adults are also becoming victims of these pranks. There have been many adults that have been charged with sex crimes because of all of this. It seems like it begins with no real intent to hurt anyone, but once they get any kind of a reaction from their friends, it becomes almost addictive. It starts out as some kids making poor choices without realizing how terrible the situation is. Although technological advances can really be a good thing, unfortunately it also has brought the sexual predators and naive children a toy that can have devastating effects on other people, not to mention that it puts all involved in a precarious situation.

Gone are the days of playing doctor and the innocent Ill Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours games. Children are being charged with crimes because of this stuff even if they only post nude pictures of themselves up. Many people ask though if teens sexting means that they are so much more sexual and bad than they used to be or has the medium just changed? It does seem that sex is much more tolerated and talked about than it had been in the past. The rates of teenage pregnancy and STDs are at an all time high though. This leads many people to come to the conclusion that we are now much too tolerant of what kids are exposed to and what they are doing. Apparently the evidence does not suggest that this is a good thing, i.e., the teens sexting.

The Seriousness Of Teens Sexting

The problem of teens sexting starts with the fact that children are given their own cell phones and computers things of magnitude that never would have been matched in the past. No longer are they playing with soccer balls and Barbie dolls. It is cell phones, video game systems with chat capabilities and computers with the same. Many people claim that not only are we too tolerant of what are kids are exposed to, be we are criticized as being the ones who are supplying the means by which the exposure occurs and it is true. Parents buy these things for children.

What is not the parents fault though is the lack of time that they have available to properly monitor their kids. It is true that it would be a hard task just because of the time involved to look at everything they are doing. However, to make up for this parents must take the time to teach their children about the dangers of teens sexting and other dangerous things to do online and on their cell phones.
