Letting A Child Have A Cell Phone Is A Big Decision

If you are a parent are you one that will allow this child of yours to carry a cell phone? We carry one for several many different reasons. Most of you start out having this type of phone only for emergencies. This might be that you travel so much that you are away from a close phone. Then you might not carry a lot of money on your person and something goes wrong and you have to call home. You might work a good distance from home and are not allowed to call out on their phone without having a calling card. With having this cell phone you would be able to do whatever you would need to do.

Some of you will give your child one of these cell phones for this very reason. But in doing so you will need to make sure that they are not abusing this phone. You will need to make it so that it is blocked for all usage except getting in touch with you or maybe other family members. Like if they get in trouble at school and you have to go get them, or they are sick or some other health problem. Then they could call and tell you they have practice after school and will be a little later then you expect them. Or they forgot to tell you that they will be staying after school to go to the library with friends and then going to their house to spend the night.

It is a good idea to give this child a phone for these reasons but if you do not set these restrictions on its usage you could find yourself with a bill that is out of this world. Do you remember the pranks that some children did when they were young? The long distance calls to people they did not know just for fun. The calls to sex lines or to those calls to the ones that said they could give you your fortunes. All of these calls can add up really quick and you are responsible for their costs whether or not you were the one making these calls.

It is important that if you are going to give your child a cell phone that this child knows enough and is responsible enough to carry one. If you feel that this child is not ready then wait until you feel that they are. Try to make them understand that this phone you have entrusted them with is not a toy. Tell them that if they abuse this they will lose it.
