Living in Essex in Colchester, Sade had read a good many books and had developed a keen interest in the world of fashion. She had also developed a taste for dance and for music of soul artists like Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield.

The Early Years

Sade went to London in 1977 for a course in fashion designing at the St Martin College. Upon graduation, she started her own fashion company for men's clothes at the Chalk Farm in London along with a friend and she also worked on various modelling projects. Sade had been married to Carlos Scola in the year 1989 and since then they have been divorced. Currently Sade is dating Bob Morgan, a music producer with whom she has a daughter, Ila Morgan. It was around this time that Sade first ventured into the music business as a part of a Latin Soul band known as Arriva. She first performed her well known song " Smooth Operator" as a member of this short lived band which later became her first big US hit. The song had been co-writer by Ray St. John.

The Band

Shortly after that, Sade joined Pride, the band of St. John which included Stuart Matthewman as the guitarist, Paul Denman as the bassist, Paul Cooke as the drummer and Ray St John. Ray St John left the band soon later and formed the band called Halo James. The band "Sade" had been formed by the remaining four members and they began to write their own songs. Andrew Hale, the keyboardist joined the band in 1983. In the same year, she signed up a deal with the Epic Records and Portrait Records for Canada and the US. All of the albums released by Sade had been Sony releases and the artist went on several tours during her career for which Sade tickets were quickly sold off to the fans.

Sade later made an appearance in the movie Absolute Beginners in the year 1985 and played the part of Athene Duncannon, the singer. Her third album was Stronger Than Pride, released in the year 1988 and it featured the song "Paradise" her first soul single to hit the number one stop. Keep Looking was another song from the same album that became quite popular. No new album had been released for the next four years. Love Deluxe continued Sade's unbroken streak and went multi platinum with hits like Pearls, Feel No Pain and No Ordinary Love. With the new millennium, Sade introduced various mainstream elements in her music and issued Lovers Rock and Sade tickets for her concerts had been even more popular with the new music qualities adopted by the artist.

Sade moved to Madrid and married Carlos Scola in the year 1986. However, it was short lived andshe returned later to London and moved again to Jamaica in Ocho Rios in mid 90s where she met and lived with a Jamaican producer, Bob Morgan. A new track called Mum was recorded and released by Sade in 2005 which she later performed in 2004 at the Vices for Darfur Concert and in London at the Royal Albert Hall for increasing the awareness of the Darfur region. Sade has been an inspirational artist and her songs have been soul touching. Over the years, her music has touched the lives of many and has inspired several other artists.
