Questions for Prospective Online Students

1. Do you have motivation and self-discipline? Unlike customary courses in that an instructor and students meet face-to-face 1-2 times a week, a lot of the communication and learning and in online courses are asynchronous that means class members take part and complete their tasks at different times all through the day and week. Such arrangement makes it possible to do the class work when it is most comfortable for you. Though, with such increased flexibility and freedom comes amenability. Without the structure of the regular class meetings, it depends on you to pace yourself to keep up with your assignments. 2. Can you commit time every week or even day to the online course? Online courses typically require as much commitment and time than customary courses. Completing your course assignments as well as other learning activities take from 5-15 hours and more per week. You may find you should be online almost each day. That is why before enrolling, you must be sure to put aside enough time and keep up with your weekly and daily assignments. 3. Do you have communication skills and like expressing your thought in writing? In an online course, almost all communication must be written, that is why it's critical for you to be comfortable expressing your thoughts in writing. In case you feel you are weak in the area, you should try to revive your writing skills plus learn how much writing is needed for the course prior to enrolling. 4. Are you comfortable discussing issues with the instructors? In case you have some problems with the course content or the technology, you should let the instructor know about it. Without such feedback, the instructor will not know what goes wrong. Keep in mind that a lot of the nonverbal cues you use in your classroom to show confusion, boredom, or frustration (for example, a look or a yawn of bewilderment) are impossible in online classes.
