subject: Doing A Local Online Search [print this page]

When the results are returned to the user after a local search, the listings are streamlined and focused on the particular area that the user indicated. It sounds simple, and it is and what's more, the numbers of people who go online to find local businesses is rapidly growing each day.

People are looking online for the stuff they need there is no doubt about it at all. More and more people are going online to find the things that they need and the biggest reason for this is that old staple that we humans choose the path of least resistance. If we can shed a few steps in our search for whatever it is i.e. An Internet search over a walking about town one. In a recent survey, an amazing 86% of the people that were polled said that they had used the Internet to conduct a local search to find businesses in their area. 78% of those same people also said that they conduct more local business searches now more than they did two years ago.

The survey also happened to reveal a pretty surprising rise in the use of local search engines over the good old yellow pages. This means that right now people are probably looking for your business online and if you arent there to meet them where they want to make contact you can pretty much say goodbye to their business as your competitor that is online is basking in their patronage.
