This Wednesday a Duck Boat tour boat was stranded on the Delaware River with engine problems. Passengers report that smoke was coming from somewhere on the boat and that they were waiting for help to arrive when a barge plowed into the much smaller Duck Boat.
The Duck Boat, along with all 37 passengers, was overturned into the water as the barge ran into it.
Rescuers were on the scene within 10 minutes to rescue 35 of the 37 passengers dumped out of the overturned and now sunken Duck Boat. Between 6 and 10 people were taken to local hospitals with mostly minor injuries. However, the real tragedy is that 2 of the 37 passengers are still missing. The two missing passengers are believed to both be part of a Hungarian tour group, one a 16-year-old female and the other a 20-year-old male.
Most of the passengers were rescued by other boats and passengers on the River. However, as Wednesdays light was fading rescuers began to realize that hope was slim for the 2 as of yet to be found passengers. As darkness fell, the search was halted for the night with the 2 missing passengers still unaccounted for.
The sunken Duck Boat has been located by Divers in the Delaware River under about 50 feet of water. However, continued attempts to locate the 2 missing passengers have yet to prove fruitful; the divers report that the water is too dark and murky yet for any effective search for the 2 missing passengers.
