Window Treatment Accessories - Handy And Special Tools You Should Know

Different items that can help in your window treatment projects will be tackled in this article. They are very handy and easy to use.

Bonding Tape

Iron-on bonding tape is an appropriate item to use when creating more of the decorative window treatments than functional ones. This good alternative for sewing is available in a roll. A hot iron is used to make iron-on bonding tapes work. It comes in various widths so you have to initially check if it matches with the length of fabric that you're going to use. For hems, you can use 1-inch long tapes and for attaching adornments, like flowers and bows, you can select tapes with wider width. You can all use it with ease and without the need to sew.

On the other hand, real stitching like making pleats in curtains and creating slipcovers can't be substituted by bonding tapes. It is not strong enough to hold the seams together especially for slipcovers on furniture that are frequently used.

Be sure that you wash your creation by hand when you used iron-on bonding tape. You have to re-iron the tape again or replace it with a new one when you see that it is about to go off after laundering.

Sealant

A product called Fray Check can be very handy in getting rid of unwanted frays in your fabrics. It is widely available in many sewing stores. Just like glue, you can apply it on your fabric and it will prevent frays once it clearly dries.

Fray Check is not real perfect though. It goes off even with just light laundering. It can even make the fabric more prone to fraying. So when you decide to use it on your project, you have to keep the bottle in case you need to reuse it in the future.

Fray Check is ideal when for mending the edge of the fabric that snipped or some parts of a fraying material but not on the whole seam. A serger can be handy in cases where the fabric is very susceptible to fraying.

Glue Gun

If you are really in a tight spot, a glue gun can be of great help. It is a device that can melt the glue stick creating hot glue in thin stream. It can hold fabric together in similar way that sewing can do. It is perfect for many window treatments and some slipcover projects. Glue guns are available in any hardware or crafts store. Buy good quality ones for long term use.
