Can I Track My Shipment Online?

If you're used to doing business with older courier companies, you may be familiar with the old and outdated tracking systems that use a touch tone telephone menu in order to provide you with tracking information about your package. Luckily, the average Minneapolis delivery service has now moved into the 21st century, and instead will provide you with methods for tracking your package online. There are still scenarios where telephone tracking can be useful, so instead of phasing it out completely, most companies have instead chosen to supplement it with the new methods of tracking.

Online tracking works much the same way as a telephone tracking system does. Both systems are dependent on what is called the reference or tracking number. This is a long number that you should be provided at the time of delivery from your courier company, with a unique number for every package that you ship with them. This number is essentially a number which will identify your particular package in their electronic database.

To track a package online, you will first go to your courier company's website. There are then two different kinds of setups that you might encounter. The one may require you to first log in with your account information if you have an account with your courier company before you can track your package. The other might just have a text box for tracking right on the main page. In either case, all you should have to do is simply enter the reference number and submit, and you should be provided all the relevant tracking information.

What kinds of information can you get from online tracking? More and more information is available all the time, actually. First of all, you will usually see the primary status of your shipment. Depending on where it is in its delivery cycle, this might be something like delivered, waiting for pickup, or at a specific terminal. You will also be able to see if there has been any problem with the delivery or if it has for some reason become stuck in transit somewhere along the way.

There is other information that you should be able to glean from this window as well though. GPS tracking has completely changed the way that customers are able to monitor their deliveries online. Instead of a vague update, if you're shipping with a company that has GPS tracking enabled, you should be able to see exactly where, in real time, your package is located.
