With its pristine environment, Elephant Island (Koh Chang) has become a popular tourist destination.

Jeeps are also available for rent. There is a road that cuts through the western shore almost reaching Hat Bae. From here, is a nature trail which passes through Ao Bai Lan all the way to the fishing community of Ban Bang Bao.

Koh Chang island is a great place for hiking and not far from the pier is the shrine of Chao Po and Chao Mae Koh Chang, at the end of a steep road on the west coast. Tan Mayom Waterfall is one of the largest waterfalls on the island. Hat Sai Khao or White Sand Beach is one of the longest beaches on the island. Jet boats or longtail boats can be rented to explore the many small uninhabited outer islands. Inland from the beach are many coconut trees and thick jungles of fauna to go exploring in. Bang Bao Fishery Village is a fascinating community of stilt-like houses planted in the sea interconnected with bridges. There are many outer islands to visit also. Koh Kut is located south of Koh Chang . It is said to be the most unspoiled island in South-East Asia. Further away is Koh Kong, across the Cambodian border, so bring your passport. Daily trips can be scheduled by boat or ferry to most of these islands. The naval Battle Area is in the south also near Salak Petch Bay. This is where the battle between Thai and French soldiers occurred in a conflict over the east border in 1941. There is also a Naval War Memorial on Laem Ngob Beach. Koh Chang is 385 kilometers from Bangkok, it can be reached by bus from the Ekkamai bus station in Bangkok or by air to Trat. Remember to reserve a room in advance during the high season.
