Treat Infertility To Increase Your Chances Of Conceiving

Infertility is defined as a couple trying to conceive without success for a year. The duration is shorten to 6 months in women who are 35 or above. About 10% of couples in the United States face fertility challenges. A third of those problems stem from the woman, a third from the man, and surprisingly in a third of the cases both the man and the woman have an infertility issue. Fortunately there are many different treatments for infertility. A doctor can best help with each individual case.

Very often the first step a doctor will take in treatments for infertility is to check the woman's cycle. An ovulation kit is going to help to do this. The doctor will explain what needs to be done; finding out the days that you'll be ovulating will greatly enhance your odds of getting pregnant.

The doctor will also advice on certain dos and don'ts, such as stop smoking, the man should cut down alcohol consumption, the woman should totally avoid alcohol, and both should stick to a healthy diet plan. The man should eat foods with a lot of zinc, which may help increase sperm production. The woman should consider taking preconception vitamins and include folic acid in her diet.

If the ovulation kit is not able to determine the ovulation period, the doctor may prescribe drugs to help with fertility. There are a number of options, the doctor will know which treatment is suitable for a particular infertility condition.

Some fertility drugs are taken orally, others are injected. Some of the drugs are associated with higher chances of having multiple births. If this is your concern, talk to your doctor. Having twins or triplets can lead to other medical consequences, for example low birth weight; you'll be able to find out more information from your doctor.

If the medications don't work, there are other forms of infertility treatments to help. Artificial insemination, in which the woman is injected with sperm, is one possibility. A series of advanced treatment known as assisted reproductive technology (ART) are also available.

In ART, eggs are removed from the woman's body, fertilized, and then placed back inside the woman. ART is usually the recommended treatment for women over 35 years old. Surgery may be required to treat varicocele in men. Your doctor will discuss all the possibilities.
