Causes Of Infertility In Men Contributing To Difficulty Getting Pregnant

When it comes to difficulty getting pregnant, in general one third of the time the fertility problem is in the woman, one third of the time is associated with male fertility, and the other third is a problem of both. If a couple truly wants to have a child, both of them should check to see what might be their fertility problems.

In general people tend to think that only the woman needs to watch her health since she will be the one with the baby inside her. That's not true. Health problems may also lead to infertility in men.

If a man smokes heavily, it is very likely to affect his sperm production and function. Over-consumption of alcohol can hamper sperm production and their normal function; the use of certain medications has the same effect. If the man is taking any prescription medications, he should tell his doctor. He should place importance in his diet.

Besides lifestyle health factors, which can be controlled, one of the most common causes of male infertility is a condition known as varicocele. Quite simply, it's a varicose vein in the man's scrotum. The vein is large and can generate heat in the testicles. This affects the sperm. Varicocele is usually a treatable condition, but surgery is required.

If there is any doubt about the causes of male infertility, a visit to doctor is necessary. He will be able to give the best advice to treat the condition.

The first thing the doctor will want to do is to perform a semen analysis. it's a straightforward test, especially when compared with the tests that women have to undergo. Usually two samples will be examined one month apart; this is to compare the samples with each other to confirm the results of the analysis. If there is a problem with the sperm (quantity or quality), the doctor will instruct what to do next. Otherwise he'll decide upon the best plan of action, or recommend possible treatments for infertility.
