Make Christmas Special for Your Pet

Christmas is the time of year that we search to find the perfect gifts to give to all our loved ones and that includes our family pets. If you have a beloved family pet, then you probably already know about buying gifts for your pet at Christmas time. Does your pet have a stocking? You should be able to find a variety of stockings at your local pet store. You can then fill it with squeaky toys, catnip, flavored dog bones and chew toys or whatever kinds of items it is that you're pet would enjoy. Hang the stocking next to yours on the mantel. Now that the stocking is taken care of, what about a present for your pet to unwrap too. Your pet will love all the excitement of having their own presents on Christmas day! When you sit down to open up your family's Christmas gifts, open up your pet's gifts, as well. It might be that your pet would rather chew on the stocking than play with the squeaky ball, but that's OK!

Your pet may also like special Christmas treats. Just as you cook for family at Christmas, don't forget your pet. There are numerous types of homemade treats you can cook for certain pets like dogs and cats. While you're cooking up your family's goodies, add a few extra minutes and bake some desserts for your dogs. Just be sure to use pet-safe ingredients. Never use chocolate.

But one of the best ways to make your pet feel special at Christmas (or at any other time of the year) is to make sure that you are giving him enough attention. The most important thing is for you to demonstrate to your pet that you love and care for him. Words of praise and a little extra patience will go a long way during the Christmas season.

And if you are heading out of the Washington DC area and you are tired of asking your neighbor to take care of your cat while you're away or the thought of putting your dog in a kennel makes you cringe, hiring a pet sitter might be your best option. There are many passionate pet sitters who love animals and would love to be your pet sitter. A pet sitter will take good care of your pet and will guarantee his safety. Dog, cats and pets throughout the Washington DC area can benefit hugely from staying in their own home and feeling safe this holiday season! Happy Holidays!
