Dentists Can Guide Patients In How To Care For And Protect Their Teeth With Preventive Dentistry

Think of taking care of your teeth as you would with anything else in your life. You are given guidelines to stick to and rules that need to be adhered and if not the likelihood is that it will break or fail. The same can be said for your teeth. You should stick to certain guidelines when brushing and cleaning your teeth so that they perform to the standards that they can.

Dentists can guide patients in how to care for and protect their teeth, but ultimately you; the patient must take personal responsibility for your oral hygiene and the prevention of much more damaging problems later on.

One way that a dentist can help you in your preventative dentistry is through a cari free system. This system allows the dentist to indentify the magnitude of bacteria within the mouth. If an abnormal and high amount of bacteria is found within the mouth the dentist will prescribe the cari free system. This is where they will advise you to use a cari free mouthwash, which will help to prevent further decay.

Primarily however preventive dentistry should start in your own home by you. You are the person that is solely responsible for the upkeep of your teeth and your dentist is here to help you with this not to do all the work for you.

There are a few simple steps that you should follow that will help you along the path of preventive dentistry. These are:

1. Brushing your teeth twice a day for at least 5 minutes

2. Flossing once a day usually at night after brushing

3. Eating a well balanced diet that does not highly contribute to plaque surfacing upon your teeth.

4. Visit your dentist once every 6 months for a thorough check up and clean.
