What To Look For With Dry Boat Storage

Only people who have boats know what it's like to have one. There are endless things you can do on the water - skiing, swimming or simply whiling time away in the serenity. But what happens when boats go out of season? This is where dry boat storage enters the picture.

If you have a small boat, of course, you may simply be able to store it at home indoors. A canoe, for example, may easily be tucked up in your garage's rafters until its next use during warm winter months. But if you've got a really large and motorized boat, this becomes a bit of a hassle. You have the option of going for wet or dry boat storage marinas, but dry boat storage can be the better one. Let's talk about why.

With wet storage, you can take your boat out in an instant but it's only good during months when you're often on the water. In fact, you probably go fot wet storage in season unless you always take your boat back with you when you go home on a trailer. With wet storage, your boat isn't necessarily covered, although you may cover it yourself with a tarp. It should be noted as well that some marinas do offer coverage for wet storage, too. This is optimal if you want to protect your boat from the elements even when you're not using it.

For off-season storage, dry boat storage is usually a better option for you as a boat owner. Then your boat is lifted out of the water and stored in a place where it's dry and safe against moisture-related damage. This prevents your boat from deteriorating due to natural elements and keeps it in good condition for many years to come.

If you do use dry boat storage, most places will offer you the service of actually lifting your boat out of the water and then moving it into what's called a storage slip. You can also use dry boat storage if you want to work on your boat and be out of the elements while you do so. This protects your boat from further damage while you work on it and it also protects it from the elements.

Dry boat storage can be inconvenient if you use it in season because you have to store and launch your boat separately each time you use it. However, it's most certainly a good way to store your boat off season when you won't be using it for months to protect it from the elements. Now, this is cost effective and responsible boat ownership.
