Growing up in the country, my childhood house was built on 2-3 acres of land. There was plenty of room to move around (and way too much grass to mow!). Heat - Anytime my car sat out in the open during June and July, it sometimes took a while to cool it down without the shade of a garage. This may not sound like a huge deal, but wearing a shirt and tie isn't too fun when you are already pouring with sweat before getting into your boiling car! Bird poop - Sorry to be so candid, but the birds love cars that don't have a roof overhead. A solution to these problems would have been to erect a simple carport. We had the space, and as detailed above, the need as well. Carports are easy to build, especially if you have a good set of plans to set you straight. Since this type of structure doesn't have walls for support and protection, the carport you build must have the strength to remain in the ground during heavy winds, and may need to withstand the poundage of heavy winter snows if you live in such a climate.
