subject: There Is More To South Africa Than The World Cup This Summer [print this page] Every football fan would love to get to the world cup, and this year you have got to get yourself to South Africa for the Privilege. But if you are chasing after the beautiful game this year, why not take the oppurtunity to have a look around the equally beautiful setting?
South Africa is a deceptively large country, spread out over many miles. This being the case, you will probably need to get a hire car from a rental company. Even better, there is no undue confusion, as South Africans also drive on the left hand side of the road - just be wary of public transit, because their system is fundamentally flawed and has caused many delays in people's trips.
For most of the significant matches, you will be sticking to the major cities in the North of the country. As you do visit the more populated areas of the country, its worth bearing in mind that although they have seen a siginifcant drop in crime rates in recent years, you should always be ready for the worst. Johannesburg has the biggest problem with this, due to its seven million citizens and urban sprawl, so it's heavily advised to just stay near Pretoria.
Now, it's a given that you're going to be going to South Africa for more than just the World Cup, you'll want to see the sights, which is simple to do. Anyway, there will stil be some matches in the smaller cities around South Africa, so you will get to see a more initimate picture of the country taking in some of these towns that may be more out of the way, but still certainly worth a visit. If you are more of a party person, Sun City is one of the hotter spots for nightlife in SA, so much so it has become known as the "Vegas of Africa."
The greatest part of this vacation is, even if the UK doesn't do as well as anticipated, you can still spend that extra time seeing the sights of that diverse, fascinating country before packing your bags and heading home. South Africa is an really exciting place to spend your holiday; make sure that you use these to their full advantage.
