Lowest Cost Health Insurance With High Deductible Health Plans

One of the questions people ask me is, is it really true that I'll be charged more money for health care if I don't have health insurance than if I do?

And the short answer is yes; unfortunately that is the case in most instances. The reason for that is that insurance companies have a lot of negotiating power with the hospitals and doctors because they have so many people insured, they can go to a hospital or a doctor and say, look if you give us a discount, we will send our members to you for their medical needs and the health care providers are quick to make these kinds of deals. So when you go to the hospital, when you go to the doctor and they ask you for your insurance card, one of the things that they're looking at is, do we have a contract or does our PPO or preferred provider organization have a contract with this insurance company and if so, then they're going to give you that negotiated discount on your services and if you come in without any insurance, then they're going to charge you their retail rates, which hardly anybody pays because most people are covered by insurance or covered by Medicare or Medicaid.

So don't be one of the few that show up without a card to show them or you're going to be charged full retail price which is way more typically than you should or would be charged.
