Remote Locations For Christmas Breaks

For those who find that Christmas time is becoming a little too familiar, it might be time to consider taking a fresh look at locations for Christmas breaks. For many, Christmas time is a magical period of the year, but for others it can be less so. Making it memorable is the important thing, and in this article we'll look at some of the more remote locations you could think about for a Christmas holiday with a difference.

Plockton, Western Scotland

Plockton is an extremely remote town on the west coast of Scotland surrounded by stunning scenery. It is notable because despite being in such a rural location, it is connected to the national rail network. Many visitors find it strange indeed to step off a UK train surface and into such a quaint and unique town. As far as taking Christmas breaks here goes, there are plenty of accommodation options to consider, many of which will take visitors around the festive period. Christmas time is a very cold time of year, especially on the west coast of Scotland, so it's important to take plenty of extra layers with you. More layers, in fact, that you would need if you are ordinarily resident on southern areas of England, for example.

Dartmoor, Devon

While the wilderness of Scotland is hard to beat, Dartmoor in Devon, south west England, might give it a run for its money. In certain areas it can look very remote indeed, and if you're looking for a really remote area of the country to be in for the festive period, there are plenty of accommodation options to choose from that can make Christmas breaks very enjoyable indeed. If you are considering taking your loved ones to this part of the country, then you should understand that the Great outdoors is the main reason for going. Wild ponies, beautiful rivers and long country walks, these are the kind of attraction you should have in mind.

A search on the internet should give you some good options for both Scotland and Dartmoor. But be warned, the accommodation options for both these areas is limited, so you should ensure you book well in advance. You might not wish to go to such a place for Christmas Day, but you might wish to go to Plockton or Dartmoor before or after the big day. If you really want options for Christmas breaks that offer a remote getaway, there are plenty of options to choose from.
