Don't read any further if you haven't seen the movie because there is a spoiler ahead. In the first twenty minutes, the lead bomb technician gets blown up, therefore a replacement is sent to that unit. This new guy turns out to be some kind of cowboy that doesn't follow the rules and also doesn't seem to be to scared of dying either. That's what you think at least, but as The Hurt Locker goes on you learn more about the characters gain insight about why they do the things they do.
