Finding A Job: Should You Bend The Rules A Little?

Job hunting can be a tedious endeavor full of ups and downs. It may seem like there just aren't that many opportunities out there for you. If you think differently, a job search can actually be somewhat pleasant. Motivation and dedication are two keys to securing your ultimate job.

The job hunt process is very familiar. You read want ads then mail a resume and hope to get an interview. Until you know one way or the other, you're forced to wait anxiously to hear that you're hired. The procedures may be familiar, but that doesn't mean that you're doing what's best for you. It never hurts to consider solving a problem in a new way.

Go on the offensive. Everyone knows to look at ads and "help wanted" posters to find a job. Try contacting businesses even if you're not sure that they need a position filled. Taking the initiative is a desirable quality, and you demonstrate that upfront by calling a business on your own. Being familiar with particular business practice is also a good idea because it allows you to offer specific ways you can help the company.

Your qualifications are always an asset. It's common for job advertisements to list minimum qualifications to be eligible for a job. In many cases, you are in no way disqualified from getting a job as long as you can show how you're qualified. Even if you don't meet every criterion, apply for a job if it's one that you really want. Companies teach their employees how things should be done, so initial guidelines are only part of the story. Also, employers may find that you have helpful abilities that they didn't initially seek out.

Try traditional strategies in new ways. There's nothing wrong with some traditional methods of job hunting as long as you make the process work for you. If you're searching for jobs in newspapers and magazines then you should also look on the Internet. Also, try creative approaches like designing a website or uploading video that lets you give your profile.

Finding a job isn't a one-size-fits-all process. It's only a matter of using the most successful tactics to land the best job for you. If you think creatively and go on the offensive, you greatly increase your chance for success.
