Vehicle Rental Tips

It is basically the same finding a rental car here as it is in most other countries (at least the process is). While in some places it may be called something else, like car hire instead of car rental like it is in the U.S, there are many similarities in the actual renting process.

A great thing that has become popular is rental agencies in the United States have been affiliating with rental agencies in other countries. So when you are traveling to a different country, you can go through one of the agencies that you normally use at home and see who they recommend or already work with so that you know you have a reliable company on deck and you won't have to worry or stress about it.

Getting an IDP, international driving permit is a smart thing to do even if you might not need it. You have to get it before you leave to travel so you don't have to worry about it when you get there because you need to get it in your own country and have it on you with a driver's license when you drive elsewhere.

Several countries also say that you have to have an international insurance certificate. This paper certifies that your vehicle that you are renting is insured. When traveling internationally, your credit cards will cover your rental vehicles; however a car rental agent will want to see your international insurance certificate before handing you the keys to anything that you drive.

International travel and international driving do require a few extra documents, so don't be unprepared. Take the time to figure out exactly the documents you will need for the destination that you will be traveling to. You can access this information through a car rental agency (speak directly to someone at the location that you will be picking up the vehicle for more reliable local information) or through your travel agent. You may access this information online as well or contact a DMV office in your area to inquire about international travel.
