subject: An Overview Of Alternative Treatments For Asbestos-related Mesothelioma [print this page]

Although mesothelioma can be caused by other things - like radiation exposure, and is some cases, genetics - most of it is related to asbestos exposure. Nonetheless, it can't be denied that to have it, means a person will be facing a very aggressive enemy - whether it's attacked the lining of the lungs, the abdominal cavity, or the mesothelial tissue of some other body organ.

Many times, the cancer isn't even caught until it's already spread, and by then, patients aren't able to handle the rigorous treatments normally used to fight the disease - as their bodies are in a more weakened state than they would normally be from other types of cancer. Plus, some cancer patients simply don't believe in adding man-made chemicals to their systems - no matter what the circumstances. This is where many of them have found help in alternative treatments, to alleviate their symptoms, and in some cases, even cure them of their diseases. Here is a short rundown of some treatments being used today:

Reiki - This is an ancient practice of massage, used to help restore balance to the body by unblocking the energy, and allowing it to flow freely once more. A Reiki "master" works on the sick person by placing his hands over the body - almost, but not quite, touching the skin. He then moves down the whole body, attempting to impart his healing energy to the patient - paying special attention to the diseased areas. Some patients have benefited from Reiki sessions, and have reported decreased pain, easier breathing, an increased feeling relaxation - and the ability to sleep through the night once more.

Vitamin C therapy - Researchers have found that certain levels of pharmaceutical grade vitamin C - aka ascorbic acid - actually stops the growth of tumors. And in some cases, it's even vanquished the deadly cancer cells - thereby curing the person of his illness. However, before using this method, check with your doctor first, as this treatment has been known to interfere with the effectiveness of treatments like chemotherapy - especially if both methods are used at the same time.

Essiac tea - This is a tea made from burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, and Turkish rhubarb - and it can be purchased either at a local health food store or online. It's available either in blended form, or each herb can be purchased separately, so it can be brewed from scratch.

Once it's made, it's taken three times a day, with the prescribed dose being three ounces per dose. And, it needs to be taken on an empty stomach. Some former cancer patients - including a few that have battled this type of cancer- have reported they've been cured by taking the prescribed dosages in conjunction with adhering to a strict diet.

There are many alternative treatments that are reported to work in alleviating the symptoms of - and once in a while even curing - mesothelioma. And, you can find all of them by searching the internet yourself. However, it's important to remember to always check with your doctor first, before trying any alternative treatment on your own - as cancer is nothing to fool around with.
