The invention of the computer has made life a lot easier and changed many aspects of how we live our lives. The advancement of the computer age has changed many things even the way we play games. E-sports is a classic example of the growth that is being experienced in online gaming. Counter-Strike and Quake were among the first E-sports holding tournaments and leagues online.

E-sports have become so popular and competitive that players can earn huge sums of money from playing (up to $200,000 a year). So with millions of players, and by far being the most popular online game of all time, it was merely a matter of time before World of Warcraft embraced the E-sport method of play.

With the first world of warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade, WoW creators Blizzard allowed a new way to engage in Player versus Player mode (PvP) when they introduced the Arena.

In the Arena a group of WoW players could fight as a team of either two players, three players or five players. The Arena became a place where fierce competitive battles were fought as teams strived to win points and beat the complicated rating system that ranked them.

Teams from all over the world gathered together to do battle and fight for the very desirable top ranking spots.

Very soon afterwards Blizzard created a tournament for five player teams to compete for a ten thousand dollar prize. Many thousands of established teams began battling for a place in the tournament and many more were created for the same reason.

For years prior to this World of Warcraft PvP expansion there were E-sport sponsors of other online games and it was no surprise that Warcraft caught their attention.

As Blizzard were already hosting 5 player team tournaments the company World Series of Video Games (WSVG) negotiated with them to host 3 player team tournaments. Again this tournament carried a $10,000 prize and attracted a great deal of competition among world of warcraft teams.

These three player team tournaments are very exciting to watch and seem to be the most popular of all tournaments. With its explosive popularity still rising the world of warcraft tournaments will now be shown on CBS. This also led to a CGS television deal for Blizzard's 2 player tournaments and the popularity of this PvP Arena play is set to keep growing.

With the PvP Arena prizes now dwarfing almost all other E-sports, many online E-sport players are migrating to World of Warcraft making it even more popular.
