Latex Mattress: Lie On One For A Good Night's Sleep

If you're tired of not getting a good night's sleep, if you're tired of sleeping on a saggy old spring mattress. If you're just plain tired...it's probably time you purchased a latex mattress.

The springs in the well known, traditional spring mattress sag as the mattress ages. And those sags take your sleeping form with them, causing all manner of aches and pains, as well as turns and tosses as you try to get comfortable. The problem is "pressure points" -- those sags in the springs. But a latex mattress has no springs, therefore no sags. A latex mattress generally is a firm mattress, so your back receives better support -- and you receive a good night's sleep. In addition, traditional spring mattresses last eight years on average. A latex mattress, by comparison, will give you 20-25 years of good nights' sleep. How's that for value!

Look a latex mattress over closely and you'll see hundreds of impressions, a little smaller than a golf ball holes. Known as "pincore holes," these holes help support important parts of your body, such as your lower back (lumbar). The holes also provide better distribution of your weight on the mattress, give you a more comfortable and restful sleep.

Another latex mattress benefit: Latex actually comes from the sap of rubber trees, so a latex mattress actually is made of organic material. It's therefore less likely to harbor mold and it also resists other bacteria as well as dust mites. The mattress' pincore holes also help keep humidity down inside the mattress. Mold loves humidity, so there will be less chance of mold forming in a latex mattress.

If you're concerned for the environment, a latex mattress can help allay those concerns because a latex mattress is biodegradable (that tree sap again) and will decompose easily when you've disposed of it in a couple of decades to get a new one. Latex mattress also are hypoallergenic and doesn't contain chemicals that can be irritating to those with hesitative skin.

If you sleep upon a traditional spring mattress, you may have noticed that it feels uncommonly cold or warm on the mattress when it's warm or cold in your bedroom. That's because the material used to make spring mattresses doesn't "breathe" very well. You won't have that problem with a latex mattress.A latex mattress costs more than one with springs. You can count on spending at least $1000 for a latex bed. But the comfort and durability of a latex mattress trumps the short-term cost savings of a spring mattress.
