Therefore, before you set out on your Alabama vacation you must ask yourself, "what kind of a holiday do I want?"

For instance, the Florence/Muscles Shoals region is well known for its green mountains and placid lakes. So, if a relaxed laid back mountain vacation is what you have in mind you should look for Alabama vacation rentals around this area.

However, if an adventure filled beach vacation is what you are yearning for, Orange Beach Vacation Rentals are where you should park yourself. Orange beach offers excellent water based recreation activities like deep sea fishing, dolphin excursions, parasailing, pontoon boat rides, wave-running, etc. If you happen to visit during fall, you'll also get to experience the fun and colorful shrimp festival.

Orange beach in fact offers excellent shopping opportunities as well. The Wharf with its local boutiques, souvenir shops and 1.5 mile entertainment area is a popular shopping place amongst tourists.

If you like shopping for art works and antiques, you must include Fairhope in your Alabama itinerary. The town is well known for its art galleries, quaint little boutiques, antique shops and cafes. In case you are travelling with your children, don't forget to treat them to the locally made candies in Fairhope.

Birmingham is also good place to visit if you are travelling with your children. The Birmingham zoo, with as 1000 different species of birds and animals from around the Globe and Sloss Furnace just outside downtown Birmingham are two of the most recommended attractions in this part of the state.

If you want to add a National park experience to your holiday, you may also consider visiting the Talladega National Forest and/or the Horseshoe Bend National park. While the former is known for its natural beauty and varied flora and fauna, the latter is a place of great historical significance. The park protects the site of the battle in which General Andrew Jackson's forces broke the power of the Upper Creek Indian Confederacy
