Fight the Problem of Childhood Obesity

It is pretty well known that this country has a problem with obesity and it is not only affecting adults, but it is a growing occurrence in our nation's most precious commodity, our children. Change, when it involves a large number of people, is always a slow process. But it has to start somewhere and it might as well be with you and the children of your community.

This is a change that has to begin with adults. Children are guided by adults for many years and it is up to us to guide them and give them the tools they need to live a healthy life and that includes their weight.

Educate yourself and your children on good nutrition.Teach them what will benefit them and what will harm them in the long run. We teach our children to look both ways before they cross the street. We also want them to have all the foods that they enjoy, but it is important that they understand that they cannot have chololate and candy every day.

Fitness is essential and the times have changed to the point where we just don't spend the time outside enjoying activities the way we did in decades past. Set time aside to do things with your children that will keep them physically fit. Walk, ride bikes and swim together. Children learn by example and if you do no activities that keep you physically fit, you are going to have a hard time explaining to them why they should.

Avoid fast food and convenience foods. These are 2 of the biggest causes of weight problems when it comes to food. That does not mean that they cannot have Mr Biggs or McDonald's.L et them understand they just can't have it every day.Living healthy does take planning, but it is much easier to live healthy than it is to try to reverse a medical condition that is the result of unhealthy choices. Begin today by making choices and teaching your children how to make choices that will keep them healthy.

There are extremely serious health problems that afflict those who suffer with obesity including, heart disease, cancer, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, strokes, all of these health problems caused by obesity are potentially deadly. In addition the obesity problem can also cause less deadly but equally debilitating health issues such as respiratory problems, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, gout, and gall bladder disease.

The obesity problem lies though not just in the numbers. Obesity can cause a wide range of health problems. The obesity problem is constantly addressed for because of the many problems related to obesity and health. The major risk associated with obesity is death. Obese people are more likely to die at a younger age then those of average weight. They die of many complications from obesity.
