Unquestionably Honolulu is the paradise for retiring. Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii, the most populous state in the United States, and for good reason. Consolidated with the island of Oahu (City and County of Honolulu) it is the only incorporated city in Hawaii. The city is dominated by the Asian culture (over 54%) with White (21%), Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (6.2%), and Black or African American (1.9%) filling in the gaps. The median income per capita is nearly $25,000 with a respectable 7.9% below the poverty line. Nearly a quarter of the populace is 45 to 64 with the 65 year and older crowd being a healthy 18%.
Honolulu is renowned in entertainment, affirmed year after year by the millions of tourists. Ala Moana, Honolulu Academy of Arts, National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Diamond Head, and Aloha Tower are just a few attractions. There are various portions of Honolulu portioned out into neighborhoods: Downtown (financial, governmental, and commercial part of Honolulu), Arts District of Honolulu (Chinatown), Capitol District (Hawaii's state government), Kaka'ako (light-industrial district), Waikiki (tourist district), and Mano and Makiki (residential neighborhoods) just to name a few. Retirees love and enjoy the plethora of live entertainment but the main attraction to both residents and tourists is the climate. The tropical wet and dry climate but with low precipitation offers a perfect habitat for soaking up the rays. With little climate variation throughout the year, Honolulu's average temperatures are highs of 80-90 degrees with lows of 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit. Rarely do temperatures exceed 90 degrees and the water is an inviting 82 degrees in the summer and a inticing 77 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter. There are very few places on earth that offer year around beach weather both on land and sea. Undoubtedly, Honolulu offers nearly every kind of transportation from fast electric scooters, the electric trike, bikes, boat, railway, bus, airplane and helicopter to help your travels. If there ever was a question of where in the United States to retire, it would definitely be sunny Honolulu.
