The concept of marriage in India has gone through various changes from the ancient times till now. Though, the meaning of marriage remains same that is tying the knots of the bride and the groom for the life time. As a result of which they are bind to support each other in all the ups and downs of life and becomes each others inspiration, towards the achievement of success in their respective work fields in life. But, the forms and the types of marriages which were practised in the ancient India, has somehow vanished with the development in the time and the change in the mindset of the Indians.

Out of all the atrocities, done on the name of marriage, child marriage is considered to be the most heinous act, which was practised on the small children, just to give life to the stupid believes possessed by the Indians in the earlier ages. Child marriages in India, was a very prevalent act, which used to practised in the country, even till the time, when country became independent. It means its just been few years that the concept of child marriage has faded from the country. Faded, is the right term to use, because still there are some regions or backward villages in the country, where child marriages are still practised.

Child marriages in India, basically refers to two types of practises, one is marrying a young girl and making her a bride to an old man, wherein it is the second marriage of the groom, thereby, spoiling the future of the small girl child. This concept hails from the old Indian belief, where the status of women was given the level of the mans feet and his shoes, and she was the most disrespected element of the society. Women have always been the most degraded and the underestimated element of the ancient India, where she was always the one, who has no right to put her view point in front of the society. The other practise considered under the child marriage, is fixing the marriage of the baby girl and baby boy, few years after the date of their birth. The marriage of the children are done, before they attain the age of eighteen and become intelligent enough to understand the meaning of marriage. Child marriages in India, was done to bind the boy and girl into a bond, and taking away the right of marrying according to their own choice from them.

The modern society no doubt has made the Indians widen their approach towards marriage and has helped in the abolishment of the act of child marriage. Though, the custom of child marriage in India, is very old, and has vanished with the changing times, but still there are many villages in the country, who still follow the practise of child marriage and make their children marry at a very early age, leaving no scope for the implementation of their choices on their marriage. Child marriage is in a way an invitation to the problems for future, because in todays world after growing up, the children do not believe in the marriage ceremonies practised in the childhood, which if believed by the brides family, somehow, spoils the life of the bride by making her take divorce at such a young age.

There have been laws made, which bans the execution of child marriages, but the implementation of the laws is a rare practise in the villages of India, where the law is a part of these practices and somehow encourage them. Therefore, it is in the hands of the common man to let not the people of the country violate the laws and spoil the future of their children by making them follow the acts like child marriages.
