subject: Under What Circumstances Is Your Insurance Mis Sold? [print this page]

Be aware of your rights if you have been mis sold an insurance policy. If you have been made unemployed by your employer for almost 14 days, then you can make a claim. But if you were unemployed when you bought a policy then you cant make a claim if you meet with an accident or are sick. This policy does not cover unemployed or self employed people. If you have been sold a policy saying that it will protect you, then you have been mis sold a policy.

If you can prove this, then you can make a claim from those who have mis sold you the policy. They have to compensate the amount that you have spent paying up the premiums on your income protection.

Pre existing medical condition: No policy holder will be covered if it is later found by the doctors that you have had a medical condition even before applying for a policy then an insurance company will not pay you compensation for your medical expenses when you are sick or have met with an accident. This should be informed to you when you apply for a policy. Your agent has kept you in dark about this fact hence you have been mis sold a policy and you can claim your rights. You were made to unnecessarily pay for a policy that was not applicable for your condition.

Self employed status: If you were a self employed person when you bought a policy and the same has been mentioned in the policy papers and you were still sold a policy, then the agent has made you a victim. He has mis sold a policy that is not relevant for your employment status. You have wasted huge amounts on premiums which you have paid on these policies.

Consider, if you really need a policy as it is not mandatory to have one. If you dont have savings how could you support your household, repay your mortgage or save for the future? You may think Workers Compensation will cover your costs in the case of an accident, but Workers Compensation protects you if your injury is connected with work.

Just one missed mortgage repayment is enough to have the lender send you a letter and wanting to know when you are going to catch up on the arrears. If you do not know when you are able to go back to work you would not be able to make any arrangement to repay. In such circumstances mortgage protection policy will help you.
