subject: Takeaway Insurance Sector Remains Strong [print this page]

The takeaway insurance sector remains buoyant despite the economic worries and this particular part of the food business is faring well, helped by a number of interesting initiatives.

One of which comes from the students at the University of Kent who looked at all elements of the business, including takeaway insurance, and came up with a neat concept. They have created a website which helps Kent locals come to a decision regarding their local restaurants and takeaways as to the discounts and special offers available.

The idea was born out of a students need to get the best value takeaways. Although they did look at many aspects of the food business, including takeaway insurance UK, they decided to look at things from the consumer's point of view.

Three students discovered that their internet research into discounts and menu deals could pay dividends in establishing a website where people could find all the information in one go. Thus a business was formed, without looking too deeply into such matters as cheap takeaway insurance.

The students, who hail from the University of Kent's School of Computing, won first prize in a business planning competition organised by the institution. Their prize was a business training course of one week and support, and guidance, from the University's student enterprise initiative, called RoundOne.

One of the mentor's advising on the project said:

"Our services is based around having a complete and accessible listing of all the local restaurants and takeaways. We make it easy for the restaurant owners to constantly update their information, menus and offers. In Canterbury, we now have a good numbers of restaurants and takeaways promoting their offers through our website. We hope that local residents will continue to use our service as it grows over the coming months."

The new website idea was applauded by all those working on the project as one that had its roots in supplying a much needed service for the local community; it was not a concept based business, but a practical one that helped not only takeaway customers, but the businesses themselves.

And in today's tough economic climate, that has to be applauded.

As the Senior Enterprise Manager at the University of Kent, Stephanie Barwick said:

"In today's changing employment landscape, an increasing number of students and graduates are considering the option of self-employment as a serious alternative to finding a job. We are here to help and support those who want to explore this option and turn their ideas into a commercial reality."

And for those that decide the food business is the route for them in their future careers, especially after leaving higher education, they will need good takeaway insurance in the future.
