Horse Riding Helping To Bring Hope To British Children

Horse riding is a wonderful sport that millions of people across the world partake in. While some people spend time with horses just for fun and pleasure, other people work with them on a daily basis. And offering horse riding to children has become a popular way of teaching youngsters from all sorts of backgrounds about responsibility, trust and many other important skills.

Across the UK, charities are using horses to help children improve their lives and give them a focus and aim. For years the activity has been used to help disabled children keep fit and build a special relationship with an animal that might not have been possible before. Now horse riding is also being used to benefit disadvantaged children from inner city backgrounds to give them life skills, an education and the ability to learn how to succeed and break away from deprivation.

By providing youngsters with access to equipment and horses, charities across the country are helping to give them something to aim for, whether they want to end up being a champion jockey, or whether they are quite content simply enjoying a ride on a Saturday afternoon. Horse riding has the ability to connect with young people in a special way and without it some of the children it helps may well end up falling into a world of crime quite easily.

For children who are not able bodied, horse riding can be a lifeline that not only helps them remain fit and active, but provides an opportunity for social interaction that can prove so vital. Riding can be used as a form of therapy and can go a long way towards boosting childrens general health and well as being a way to help build strength and muscles.

Here in the UK, there is an overarching body, the Riding for the Disabled Association which for the past 40 years has been helping member groups across the country to operate and in turn offer opportunities to disabled people through horse riding, vaulting activities and carriage riding.
