subject: Kids Behind Barbed Wire [print this page] At the school, I met up with one of the boys from the camp. When one of the masters discovered that we had lived in Egypt, he got us to sit cross-legged in front of esch other at an assembly and conduct a conversation in Arabic. We sat there exchanging all those important Arabic phrases that we had picked up from the soldiers, plus, of course, the gestures that went with them. Everyone was impressesd and we were were warmly applauded. If only they had known what we were saying we would have been grounded for weeks.
